        Analyst/Senior Analyst - P&L Reporting

        Financial Operations
        Hyderabad, Bengaluru or Gurugram

The D. E. Shaw group uses a combination of quantitative and qualitative tools to uncover self-governing, hard-to-find sources of return across global public and private markets. We are seeking an analyst/Senior Analyst to join our P&L Reporting team at the firm’s office based in Hyderabad, Bengaluru, or Gurugram, India which is responsible for producing firm-wide reports that provide insights and analyses into key performance indicators— including profit and loss (P&L), expenses, capital, returns, and fees— for the offices of the Chief Operating Officer (COO), Chief Financial Officer (CFO), business unit (BU) heads, and portfolio managers. The group handles ad hoc requests related to P&L and capital from portfolio managers and senior stakeholders, facilitating effective decision making through clear reporting, analyses, and recommendations. Another key responsibility is driving technology initiatives—leveraging a combination of proprietary and third-party tools to prepare and present reports, streamline workflows, improve process controls, and enhance user experience.

        What you’ll do day-to-day

You will take end-to-end ownership of the team’s recurring P&L reporting suite — across daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly and year-end cycles — ensuring every report on P&L, expenses, capital, returns & fees is accurate, timely and complete. You will also coordinate with various teams including Front Office, Risk, Pricing, and other teams in FinOp to ensure accuracy of data while managing recurring workflows to sync, reconcile and allocate P&L, expenses and capital. Additionally, you will act as the domain expert and “human in the loop” for automated recurring workflows — running, validating and troubleshooting outputs (including those produced with GenAI) and owning the controls that keep reporting accurate. You will also respond to P&L and capital-related ad-hoc requests from portfolio managers and senior stakeholders. Finally, you will understand changes in the firm’s businesses, like new products and fund launches, and incorporate these changes into the recurring reports independently.

        Who we’re looking for

        Basic Qualifications:

        • Finance domain knowledge, robust analytical and problem-solving skills, someone who is a quick learner and can excel while working under tight deadlines
        • The ability to be self-motivated, exhibit keen attention to detail, and have a high sense of ownership with an attitude to take initiative in driving process enhancements
        • 1 to 3 years of relevant experience in P&L / management reporting, fund accounting, financial planning & analysis (FP&A), or a related finance function
        • Working knowledge of how hedge funds operate and their revenue model (fees and expenses), along with core financial concepts — instruments, ratios, accounting terms and statements
        • Robust data and analytical skills — advanced MS Excel
        • Comfort working alongside automation and GenAI tools — able to run, validate and critically evaluate their output as the domain expert, with a solid controls and process-improvement mindset
        • Learning agility and adaptability to evolving workflows, tools, and business changes
        • Excellent written and oral communication skills along with deft interpersonal skills are essential for managing interactions with senior stakeholders and ability to collaborate with multiple groups
