Ascend Educare offers a wide-ranging mentorship experience to women students with a passion for technology.

This six-month program, launched in 2021, presents intellectually curious students with opportunities to receive engaging, real-world guidance from experienced mentors in a supportive group setting, learn from various industry leaders, and interact with a diverse group of students from across India.

Through Ascend Educare, students also gain a better understanding of the work we do at D. E. Shaw India, along with valuable insights into the worlds of finance and technology.

Program Overview

Ascend Educare includes courses on technical topics such as core technology, problem-solving, and design thinking, as well as general skills such as presentation and communication skills. Each tech course consists of three two-hour sessions, while each general skills course consists of a single two-hour session.

The program also features other learning, engagement, and networking activities such as virtual meetings with D. E. Shaw India’s leadership, speaker sessions, happy hours, and more.

Most sessions and activities are conducted virtually over weekends. In addition, students travel (at the firm’s expense) to D. E. Shaw India’s Hyderabad office for opening and closing ceremonies, which are packed with networking events and engagement activities.

Program Duration: October 2024–March 2025

Program Stipend: Students receive a one-time stipend of INR 50,000 for their participation in the program.

Eligibility

Ascend Educare is open to students enrolled in a full-time course and meeting one of the following criteria:

  • Second/third-year student in a BTech/BE program
  • Third/fourth-year student in a five-year dual degree program (BTech + MTech, BE + ME)
  • First-year student in a two-year MTech/MS/MCA program
  • Second-year student in a three-year MCA program

How to Apply

Our application process involves three steps:

  • All applicants are asked to submit an online application and resume providing your GPA, course of study, and any record of distinction.
  • Candidates selected for the second round will be asked to take an online test covering general aptitude and programming skills.
  • Candidates selected for the final round will be invited for a virtual interview.

Absolutely. The program is open to students from all eligible degree programs of study. No prior finance knowledge is required.
