        Senior Analyst/Manager - Expense Reporting

        Financial Operations
        Hyderabad, Bengaluru or Gurugram

The D. E. Shaw group seeks a motivated and detail-oriented professional to join its Expense Reporting team in Bengaluru, Gurugram, or Hyderabad. This role blends financial analytics with technology, supporting senior leadership with rigorous expense intelligence across the firm. The team delivers high-quality reports and analyses of firmwide expenses to senior management, serving as a key resource for expense analytics and enterprise-wide budgeting. The team also partners with technology teams to design and implement automation and analytics solutions — with team members expected to define requirements and manage delivery. The ideal candidate possesses robust analytical instincts, is comfortable with large, complex datasets, and seeks to build smarter, more efficient workflows through technology, including AI.

        What you’ll do day-to-day

In this role, you will partner with the COO and CFO's office, business unit heads, and portfolio managers to deliver analytical reports, expense and profitability models, and commentary on firm-wide, business unit, and fund-level expenses. Core responsibilities include budgeting, forecasting, scenario analysis, and ad-hoc support for groups such as Investor Relations, Corporate Development, and Legal & Compliance. You will own change initiatives impacting expense reporting — engaging stakeholders across the firm, including the COO office, to assess implications and define the path forward. As the team's project manager on cross-functional efforts, you will coordinate with stakeholders, manage timelines, and ensure changes are accurately reflected across reporting infrastructure and processes, frequently leading projects end-to-end from scoping through delivery. You will also oversee month-end activities, including expense allocation reviews, reporting deliverables, and financial analytics for external stakeholders. This includes serving as the primary point of contact for month-end queries, reviewing team output, and guiding junior team members. On the technology side, you will lead projects to build reporting and analytics tools, streamline workflows, and improve user experience — defining requirements, coordinating with tech teams, and driving delivery. Throughout, you will build trusted relationships with senior stakeholders, translate complex financial data into clear and actionable insights, and engage confidently across all levels of the firm.

        Who we’re looking for

The ideal candidate should hold –
        Basic qualifications:

        • MBA in Finance with 3–7 years of experience in Financial Planning & Analysis or related fields, including financial modeling, budgeting, forecasting, and expense analysis. Demonstrated ability to manage cross-functional projects, and translate complex financial data into clear, executive-ready insights
        • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with sharp attention to detail and the ability to work on large datasets, complex models, and analyses
        • Proficiency with MS Excel
        • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build rapport and collaborate effectively with colleagues and stakeholders at all levels of the organization
        • Experience with AI, data visualization, and reporting tools such as Claude, ChatGPT, Power BI, Workday, or similar platforms is preferable

        Preferred qualifications:

        • Prior experience in the hedge fund or asset management industry

Candidates with relevant experience looking to restart their careers after a break are encouraged to apply for this position.
