        We seek an experienced security engineer to join our Information Security team at the D. E. Shaw India office in Hyderabad. The Security team works to continuously improve the security posture of a dynamic, large-scale IT environment, and helps minimize information security risk for the firm. The Security Engineer will work primarily in the Incident Detection & Response (IDR) domain.

        What you’ll do day-to-day

        You will lead the Incident Detection and Response function by defining, evolving, and executing its roadmap to align with the firm’s objectives. In this role, you will mentor, guide, and develop the IDR team, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and operational excellence. You will research, deploy, and administer security solutions across cloud, network, endpoint, and email, while also building tools to support security operations. Responsibilities include leading security monitoring, forensic investigations, threat hunting, vulnerability management, and third-party security assessments. As a senior escalation point for security incidents, you will provide expert analysis and decisive response coordination. Additionally, you will offer security guidance and consultation to engineering, operations, and business teams on projects and initiatives, including those in network, cloud, and generative AI domains.

        Who we’re looking for

        The ideal candidate should hold-
        Basic qualifications:

        • A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or another technical discipline, with a solid grasp of security fundamentals and practical knowledge of how security fails in the real world
        • 7–11 years of experience in Information Security, with at least 2–4 years of experience leading a security operations team
        • Hands-on experience with security infrastructure, incident response, and digital forensics in an enterprise environment
        • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to tactfully interact with technical and non-technical stakeholders
        • Exceptional problem-solving and logical reasoning skills, with a proactive approach to addressing challenges
        • Demonstrated ability to lead and manage teams, with a focus on strategic planning and operational excellence

        Preferred qualifications:

        • Proficiency in one or more programming languages (preferably Python), experience with general SDLC, and understanding of Linux environments and shell scripting
        • Expertise in network security, cloud security, or generative AI security, preferably with a formal certification
