        We are looking for an experienced software developer to join the Risk team at the D. E. Shaw India office based in Hyderabad or Bengaluru. The Risk team was formed in 2007. The Risk Committee (RC), risk analysts and quants evaluate risk in various dimensions, including monitoring firmwide risk for different business units and entities and managing the allocation of capital among our strategies. Collaborating with the business team, Risk team works on mathematical modelling of statistics and develops sophisticated software and analytical tools to support various functions of the RC, risk analysts, risk quants and other groups in the firm. Our primary business objectives include the development and design of scalable, high-performing quantitative and software tools to aid Risk team with insights to analyze various firmwide risks and develop models and tools for efficient risk monitoring.

        What you’ll do day-to-day

        In this role, you will utilize advanced ML and AI techniques to improve our risk management strategies and tools. You will develop and implement predictive models, ensuring data quality, performing inference, and querying large datasets to provide actionable insights, as well as building other usability tools for the team. You will contribute directly to developing various end-to-end solutions for the Portfolio Risk team using generative AI tools, machine learning, and related infrastructure. You will be expected to solve complex technical challenges, efficiently understanding and meeting project specifications, and rapidly learning and implementing new technologies or incorporating new predictive models within the team. You will also be expected to develop proficiency in backend technologies like Python and use it to develop various business centric tools. You are expected to mentor junior developers effectively, fostering a culture of continuous learning and improvement, and increasing their productivity and helping maintain good code quality. Building a strong rapport with stakeholder through effective communication and collaboration on projects is also essential, with success measured by interaction quality, feedback, and successful project implementation.

        Who we’re looking for

        Basic qualifications:

        • A Bachelor's or Master's degree in computer science or a related field with 4 to 6 years of relevant experience

        • Prior experience in either developing and deploying machine learning models or leveraging Large Language Models (LLMs) to extract and analyze valuable data insights and automate tasks

        • Expertise in data structures, problem-solving and knowledge of low-level design, robust skills in data analysis with an ability to work in an agile environment

        • Excellent interpersonal and stakeholder management skills, along with effective written and verbal communication abilities

        • The capability to lead project execution, including the ability to translate complex data into understandable results

        • The ability to operate with focus, discipline, and minimal supervision

        • Attention to detail and the ability to work effectively in interdisciplinary teams

        Preferred qualifications:

        • Familiarity with the financial market
