        Analyst/Senior Analyst - D. E. Shaw Renewable Investments (Energy Market Analyst)

        Join our Financial Research team in Hyderabad

        We are looking for a resourceful candidate to join our DESRI group, based out of the firm’s office in Hyderabad, India. The successful candidate will be a part of a small, inclusive, highly skilled team responsible for supporting DESRI’s portfolio of wind and solar energy projects in an agile environment that values collaboration, thoughtful problem solving, and attention to detail. The role will regularly interact with U.S. and Hyderabad-based teams as well as external parties. D. E. Shaw Renewable Investments (DESRI) develops, acquires, builds, owns, and operates solar and wind renewable energy generation facilities in the U.S.A. DESRI currently owns, operates, or has an exclusivity agreement or signed purchase and sale agreement in place with respect to more than 8.4 GW+ of solar and wind assets in the U.S. across 78+ projects. DESRI is run by a dynamic team headquartered in New York, with employees in Boston, Chicago, Minnesota, California, Arizona, Oregon, and Hyderabad (India)

        What you’ll do day-to-day

        As an Energy Analyst, you will play a key role in analyzing market scheduling, conducting Security Constrained Economic Dispatch (SCED) analysis, performing financial calculations, and conducting DART and Basis Analysis. You will require a solid understanding of the U.S. energy market landscape, particularly MISO, ERCOT, PJM, and CAISO. You will be expected to monitor market trends and regulatory changes to optimize scheduling processes and analyze market data and identify opportunities and risks associated with scheduling decisions. As a part of your responsibilities, you will conduct SCED analysis to optimize energy dispatch and ensure grid reliability and perform financial calculations to assess the economic impact of energy transactions and schedule decisions. You will also be required to develop financial models and forecasts to support strategic planning and decision making. You will perform DART and Basis Analysis to evaluate price differentials between various energy markets and maintain a thorough understanding of the U.S. energy market dynamics, including regulatory frameworks, market structures, and key players. A crucial part of your role involves staying updated on market trends, policy developments, and emerging technologies impacting the energy sector and provide insights and recommendations based on market analysis to support business objectives.

        Who we’re looking for

        Basic qualifications:

        • A Bachelor’s degree in engineering, economics, or finance with 0 - 2 years of experience in US energy markets
        • Proven experience in energy market analysis
        • Excellent quantitative and analytical skills, with proficiency in financial modeling and data analysis tools
        • Knowledge of market scheduling processes, SCED analysis, and energy market fundamentals
        • Effective written and spoken communication skills, along with an ability to work both autonomously and collaboratively with various teams

         

        Preferred qualifications:

        • A Master’s degree in engineering, economics, or finance
        • Proven experience in US energy market analysis
        • Prior experience in the renewable space (solar or wind) or any energy-related field
